2004-2005 was the Centennial Year, so it was
a great time to "Celebrate Rotary".
DG Ron & Sandy Goodsite visited our club on July 28th along
with Sr. Assistant Governor Arleen Boyuls & Assistant Governor
Mike Scott. Don Smith, Jr. was chosen as our club's "Centennial Rotarian" by
club members.
Rio Rico Rotary achieved the "Every Rotarian Every Year" goal
of donating $100.00 or more to the Annual Programs Fund and were
also #1 in the District for Annual Giving per Capita to the Foundation.
We received the Presidential Citation from President Glenn Estess,
Sr. Our club also received a certificate from Governor Janet
Napolitano commending the Rio Rico Rotary Club
for service to our community and the State of AZ. The Arizona
Business Education Association presented the Rio Rico Rotary
with the 2005 Distinguished Service Award to an Organization.
Our club sponsored Karla Urrea as an exchange student to France
and Jasleen Sawhney was our exchange student from India. Val
Scanlan was part of a team that went to Egypt immunizing children
against Polio. Our visiting GSE team was from District 9910 in
New Zealand and our club hosted them while in our Region. Denny
Scanlan from our club was the District GSE Team Leader that took
a team to New Zealand.
Member Awards:
Rotarian of the Year for Rio Rico was Lynn Sundstrom.
The 4 Avenues of Service Citation was given to Jan Collins.
Outstanding Perseverance Award went to Joe Adamson for his work
on the 501(c)3.
Rotary Red Rose Award was given to Eleanore Rankin.
Service Award for Professional Excellence to a Non-Rotarian
individual was given to Louis Chaboya.
